Dr. Workneh receives copies of credentials of Ambassadors
Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu received copies of credentials of Ambassador Michael Raynor of the United States of America and Ambassador Wasfi Ayyad of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan today (October 3, 2017).
Naming the century old diplomatic relationships between the two countries as "extraordinary", Ambassador Michael Raynor expressed his Government's "enormous interest" to further expand the ties in areas untapped before. Financial consultancy, technology transfer, gender and health were mentioned as promising areas of cooperation that would unleash new potentials in further deepening and broadening the relations among other fields of cooperation. The new Ambassador also assured the Minister that the activities of the US Embassy in Ethiopia would be intended to reflect the mutual interests of both countries both in bilateral as well as multilateral levels. He also praised Ethiopia for its unwavering commitment and at times daring sacrifices in bringing about peace and stability in the region.
Welcoming the newly appointed Ambassador Dr. Workneh promised him of the Ministry's and his office's support during his tenure. The Foreign Minister underlined that Ethiopia's role in region was a result of intimate and genuine consultations and deliberation between neighboring countries and clarities of the country's interest on issues of regional cooperation on development and peace and security. He mentioned the key role IGAD was playing in Somalia and South Sudan in supporting the ongoing positive developments in Somalia and ensuring the end of the suffering of South Sudanese. Dr. Workneh also briefly mentioned his Government's ongoing efforts in charting new and sustainable ways to solve the concerns of of its citizens on issues of good governance and development.
While receiving copies of credentials of Ambassador Wasfi Ayyad of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the new Ambassador noted that the recent inauguration of Jordanian Embassy in Addis Ababa would be a milestone in invigorating the relations of the two countries. Dubbing the relations as significant, the Ambassador emphasized on the need to work closely on areas of trade, investment and peace and security. Dr. Workneh underlined that Ethiopia is keen to further enhance the bilateral ties and expand cooperation in a wide array of fields.
