President Mulatu meets with President of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly

President Mulatu Teshome and Mr. Peter Thompson, President of the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, held talks on further speeding up concerted cooperation in areas of regional peace and security and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Jubilee Palace today (March 29th, 2017).

The discussions focused on strengthening Partnership against Peace and Security Challenges in the Horn of Africa region and moving forward with the implementation of the sustainable Development Goals in the continent.

Mr. Peter Thompson's visit is aimed at recognizing Ethiopia's noteworthy contributions during the formulation of Goal 9 of the SDGs, which  encompasses three important aspects of sustainable development; infrastructure, industrialization and innovation.

He praised Ethiopia for its significant role in the efforts of maintaining peace and stability in the horn of Africa region and for its leading and longstanding contribution to the United Nations' Peacekeeping efforts.

Currently, he added Ethiopia has embarked on implementing the Sustainable Development Agenda via its industrial development policies. He noted the Industrial Parks development going on in Ethiopia is a key mechanism towards fulfilling sustainable development needs of the Country. He further commended Ethiopia's active participation in the efforts to address peace and security challenges in the region.

Mr. Peter Thompson was briefed on Ethiopia's pro-active execution in aligning and mainstreaming the SGDs in its Growth and Transformation Plan II (GTP II). Also Mr. Peter Thompson was updated on Ethiopia's firm cooperation with regional, continental as well as International Organizations, such as the UN, AU and IGAD. Ethiopia's commitment towards United Nations Goals and its unwavering stand towards collective security has also been emphasized.
