Ethiopia, France keen to elevate Inter-parliamentary cooperation
State Minister Mrs. Hirut Zemene received a delegation of Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly led by its President Mrs. Marielle De Sernez on Friday (May 11)) and the two sides discussed on issues of national, bilateral and global issues of common interest, and agreed to scale up people-to-people-ties through parliamentary diplomacy.
The two sides reaffirmed that parliamentary cooperation between the two countries serves as a viable platform to further enhance the people-to-people ties as well as strengthen their multifold cooperation.
Mrs. Hirut praised the strong and long standing diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and, acclaiming France's contribution in the modernization process of Ethiopia. She said, "France has symbolic footprints in Ethiopia" which can be seen in the education sector and in the construction of the first railway line in the country. She also noted the all rounded cooperation with France, which she said, covered a range of sectors, including security, investment, trade and renewable energy sectors, as well as cooperation on cultural affairs.
Mrs. Marielle De Sernez in her part reiterated the well-established relations between the two countries and expressed the French government's commitment to work closely with Ethiopia on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest. Mrs. Marielle said, "We recognize the critical role Ethiopia is playing in the region, particularly in Somalia through AMISOM and South Sudan's peace process under the IGAD".
The French Delegation is also scheduled to meet with the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Peoples' Representatives of the FDRE.
