Dr.Workneh: “Ethio-Egyptian ties transcend beyond just the Nile & GERD”

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu who met his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry on Wednesday in Cairo underlined that Ethio-Egyptian ties transcend beyond just the Nile and GERD and cover the legacy of historical ties as well as address potentials for meaningful cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Workneh added that the visit is not only about the past but also the present and future of the two countries and their people. The Minister further said the 6th Joint Ministerial Commission meeting would instrumental to review existing agreements and explore new areas of cooperation.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Shoukry said the visit enhances cooperation in culture, education, trade and investment, mining and industry among others. He stressed the cooperation between the two countries would have significant importance to regional peace and stability and to potentials of wider cooperation with the whole of Africa. He also noted the fact that the current joint ministerial commission is being held at the level of heads of state for the first time shows the commitment of the two sides for further cooperation and mutual understanding.

Dr. Workneh and his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry would take part in the 6th Ethio-Egyptian joint Ministerial Commission meeting later today. At the end of the joint ministerial commission meeting, the signing of a Memoranda of Understanding would be concluded particularly on areas, including political and diplomatic consultation and Industry.
