Dr. Workneh meets UN Humanitarian Chief
Dr. Workneh met with Marc Lowcock, Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator along with Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator and Vice Chair of the United Nations Development Group on Monday (January 29, 2018). The parties discussed on the UNDP/UNOCHA joint mission in addressing the development works and humanitarian assistance programs in Ethiopia.
Dr. Workneh expressed appreciation to the two development partners for their role in the development and humanitarian assistance fields and applauded their continued humanitarian support especially through the Humanitarian Response Fund (HRF). " Dr. Workneh further took note of their commitment for supporting development, capacity building and addressing Climate Change.
He emphasized Ethiopa's efforts at resilience building as well as its focus on linking humanitarian work with development. Minister Workneh further called for their support and promised that the government would continue to facilitate their activities.
Marc Lowcock and Achim Steiner commended Ethiopia for the remarkable strides registered in development and in areas of tackling challenges that come along with climate change over the past three decades. They also appreciated Ethiopia's endeavors in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) and its goal to become a Carbon Neutral Middle Income Country by 2025. The two offices have also promised to continue working closely with the Government of Ethiopia in a bid to enhance their engagements in the country's development works.
