Hide and Skins, leather and leather products, meat and live animals represent a significant proportion of the value of World trade in agricultural commodities, amounting to approximately US $ 40 billion per annum. With approximately 40 million cattle's, 25.5 million sheep, 23.4 million goats and 2.3 million camels Ethiopia has the largest livestock herd in Africa and ranks tenth in the world. Currently, Ethiopia has an ample offer of wide range of processed and semi-processed hides and skin, leather and leather products, meat and live animals to the world market. Ethiopia has also a major comparative advantage in the raw materials sector needed for the leather sector, which makes it in principle very appropriate for leather products exporting. Some of the products such as Ethiopian highland sheepskin (cabretta) and goat skin classified as "Bati genuine" which has an international reputation for making gloves and suede, pickled sheep skin, wet blue sheep skin, crust sheep skin, meat and meat products are known for their quality and natural characteristics. Ethiopia's main exports of live animals and meat products also include steers and yearlings fresh and chilled lamb, goat and mutton carcass, and veal and beef special cuts.
