What Happened?

May 7,2005- Chairman of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front, Prime Minster Meles Zenawi, affirmed the commitment of the Front to work vigorously to usher in the Ethiopian new millennium hoping for a bright future of prosperity. Meles made the remark at a public rally in support of EPRDF in the Metropolis. 

May 25,2005-The African Union Commission marked African Day commemorating the founding of it predecessor, the Organization of African Union (OAU). The event was observed here under the theme: “An Efficient and Effective African Union for a new Africa”. 

May 26,2005-A pledging conference in support of the African Union Mission in  Darfur, Sudan (AMIS) was held here in Addis Ababa. The African Union and the United Nations co-chaired the conference at which UN Secretary General Kofi Annan urged donors to raise some 350 million dollars to meet the relief requirement for more than

three million people who were forced to flee their homes. Chairperson of AU Commission, Alpha Oumar Konare on his part said the situation on the ground in Darfur is improving though additional support to resolve the crisis is unavoidable. 

May 27,2005-Ethiopia, Egypt and the Sudan expressed readiness to boost their multi-dimensional relations. At the launching of the trilateral meeting held here in Addis Ababa, officials of the countries announced that the relations among the participant states were amicable paving the way for further cooperation.   

What is in Store? 

June 1-2, 2005- A meeting that will consider the report on the Establishment of the AU Commission on International Law will kick off in Addis Ababa. 

June 3, 2005- All Member States and other relevant organizations will meet in Addis for the session of the AU Commission on Refugees.   

June 6-8, 2005-Workshop on Early Warning and Emergency Preparedness will start here in the capital. 

June 13-16, 2005-Addis Ababa will host experts meeting on the Draft Charter on Democracy, Elections, Government and Electoral Fund.
