August 4, 2006- The Peace and Security Council of the African Union, received a briefing on Somalia from Ambassador of the Republic of Kenya, Permanent Representative to the AU, in his capacity as representative of the current chair of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and reiterated AU’s support to the Transitional Federal Institutions (TFIs), as the legitimate authority in Somalia. August 5, 2006- The second general assembly of the new partnership for African Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (NEPARC) was held here in Addis Ababa. August 8, 2006- Prime Minister Meles Zenawi conferred with Congressman Donald M. Payne and said the cooperation between Ethiopia and the U.S. has been strengthened from time to time. August12, 2006- The Ministry of Mines and Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company, MCC, for the exploration and development of mines in Ethiopia. August 14, 2006- Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Dr. Taieb Cherif visited the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and its various departments. August 14, 2006- The Government of Ethiopia and Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA) signed an agreement that would enable the CISSA to establish its headquarters in Ethiopia. What is in store? August 28, 2006- 15th African Human Rights Moon Cars competition to be held here. September 4-5, 2006- African heads of state and government will meet in Addis to develop a Programme for a host of activities for Aids Watch Africa (AWA). September 05 – 07, 2006- Ad hoc Expert Group Meeting for the African Knowledge Network Forum (AKNF) will kick off here in Addis Ababa. |
