February 6, 2006 - International Day on Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation /FGM/ held here in Addis Ababa. February 7,2006- Leading representatives of the Africa Union Commission, UNAIDS, WHO, the UNECA, AIDS Watch Africa (AWA) and AFRCASO gathered in Addis Ababa to discuss details of a consultative process which the African Union has conceived to scale up HIV prevention, treatment and care with the aim of coming as close as possible to universal access for all those who need it by 2010. February 16, 2006- The Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD) meeting commenced here with consolidation of Peace in Africa being high on its agenda. State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Tekeda Alemu on the occasion said Ethiopia attached great significant to peace in the country, the Horn of Africa as well as the continent as a whole. February 18-19, 2006 - Addis Ababa hosted the 11 th All Africa Lions Clubs conference, the first ever to be held in the city. Around 400 delegates from various countries in Africa attended the conference. February 22, 2006 - Federation of Africa Societies of Chemistry (FASC) holds meet here. Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin in his opening remark expressed the support of the government to professional associations in their efforts to use their respective knowledge and professional skills for the development of the national economy and the battle against poverty. |
