Premier Holds Talks with UNDP Administrator Kemal Dervis ( April 26 ,2007 )
Prime Minster Meles Zenawi held talks here on Wednesday with Kemal Dervis, UNDP Administrator Under-Secretary General on the bilateral cooperation between Ethiopia and UNIDP.

Kemal said Ethiopia is in a position to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the education sector.


The discussion centered on development issues, the importance of primary education, export trade and global issues such as climate change and migration.


There is a need to identify and address major problems that are witnessing in the rapid economic development of Ethiopia .

Prime Minster Meles ojn his part said the agricultural sector, which is the driving force of the county’s economy, should be strengthened to sustain the current development.

There is a need too to strengthen the industrial sector as it is the final goal of development endeavors, he said.

After the discussion Kemal Dervice told Ethiopian News Agency that his organization needs to strengthen cooperation with Ethiopia, particularly in the areas of technical and vocational educations.

“We are happy that Ethiopia is advancing on the Millennium Development Goals particularly on primary education, but I think there is also a need for higher level trainings,” he said.

The discussion also focused on global issues including global climate change and issues related with migration, both highly affecting the developing world.
