His Excellency Ambassador Redwan Hussien
His Excellency Ambassador Redwan Hussien is a State Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. He is a politician, a public speaker, and a parliamentarian. He also served as an Ambassador, as a Minister of Government Communication Affairs, a Minister of Youth and Sports, and as an educator. Ambassador Redwan Hussien has a wide-ranging experience spanning over many years of service at various capacities at international, federal, regional, and Addis Abeba City Administration levels. At the international level, he has represented his country as Ambassador of Ethiopia in Eritrea (July 2018- December 2019), Ambassador of Ethiopia in Ireland (November 2016- June 2018); and a founding member and Deputy President of the Council of African Political Parties.
At Federal Government and Addis Abeba City Administration levels he has served as Minister of Youth and Sports (2015-2016), Minister of Government Communication Affairs (2013-2015), With the Rank of Minister, advisor on Public Mobilization and Participation to the Premier and head of EPRDF Secretariat (2011-2013), head of Addis Ababa EPRDF office and with the rank of Deputy Mayor advisor to the Mayor of Addis Ababa City Administration on Public Relations (2008-2010), member of House of People’s Representatives during the 2nd National Election (2001-2005), the 4th National Election (2010-2014) and the 5th (2015-2020), Member of House of Federation representing the Siltie Nationality during the third national election and member of SNNPRS council of people’s representative (2006-2010), and Executive Committee Member of EPRDF (2006 -2017). He also served as board chairperson of Arbaminch University, board member of Addis Abeba University and Wolkite University, board chair of Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, board member of Walta Information Center, Development Bank of Ethiopia, Addis Abeba Housing Project, and Addis Abeba Integrated Land Information System Project, and the National Pension Fund of Private Sector Employees.
At Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region level he served as bureau head of SNNP Regional State Bureau of Education (2004-2008), member of SNNP Regional Council (2006-2010), Siltie Zone Department Head for Mass Mobilization and Social Affairs (2002 - 2003), Executive Committee member of South Ethiopia People Democratic Movement (SEPDM) (2004 -2017), chairman of Siltie People Democratic Unity Party, board Chairman and founder of Siltie Development Association, board member of SNNPRS Housing Project and Board member of Social Relief and Development Fund of SNNPRS.
In 2006, he graduated with an MA in Organizational Leadership from AZUSA Pacific University, California, United States. Prior to this, he was awarded BSC in Biology from Addis Ababa University in 1995. He started his tenure as an educator. He taught biology at senior secondary schools including Jinka Secondary School in South Omo Zone of SNNPR and Awolia in Addis Ababa (1996-2000).
He was born in September 1971, at Derawt and Semeredin Kebele (ward or Neighborhood), Azernet Berebere Woreda (District), in Siltie Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia. He married Mrs. Jemila Detemo and the father of three children.
