His Excellency Mr. Gedu Andargachew Alene


Born on 16 August 1963, Gedu Andargachew Alene is married and a father of two female children. Mr. Alene can read write and speak Amharic and English. He is a senior public sector executive official with demonstrated capacity in the management of public affairs. Apart from his current position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), he has served Amhara Regional State as Chief Administrator of Northern Wello Zonal Administration, Deputy Chief Administrator and Head of Bureau for Agriculture of Amhara Regional State, President of Amhara Regional State. Moreover, he has rich experience in the legislature as he has been serving as a member of the Amhara Regional Council (Parliament) as well as a member of a house of Federation of FDRE.


Mr. Gedu Andargachew is also known for his courage and initiative for leading and managing political and socio-economic changes both at the Regional State and Federal level. In this regard, he is considered as one of the champions of the Current Ethiopian change initiation and leadership. His educational and training background (Organizational Leadership & Development Administration) has a big contribution to what Mr.Alene is in leadership. He is also known for well mannered inter-personal and public relations as well as strong diplomatic approaches which finally lead him to assume his current position as the lead diplomat of FDRE.
